The incident began around 4:30 p.m. when troopers received a 911 call about a car driving erratically in the northbound lanes in Milton and hitting other vehicles, State Police said in a Facebook post. Troopers created a barricade ahead in to stop her, but instead of stopping, the woman sped up and drove at a police cruiser, the post continued. The trooper dove out of the way to safety just before the cars collided.
Authorities boxed in the woman later as she rammed into another car with an elderly couple inside, the post said. A trooper reached through the broken-out passenger window to put the car in park and take out the keys.
She crashed into at least ten vehicles during her rampage, police said. Troopers didn't say if there were any injuries.
Police said the driver was a 29-year-old woman from Marshfield, but officials did not release her name. The post said responders took her to an area hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Authorities said the woman would face charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (vehicle), several leaving the scene of an accident, and numerous traffic violations.
